News

At the start of the 2024 academic year, the Master of Philosophy will be restructured around a single pathway (« Philosophie », responsible : Valérie Debuiche), comprising core courses and a choice of specialised courses, for a total teaching volume of 444 hours per student;tudiant en 1e ann&e et 350 heures/étudiant en 2e ann&e, hors heures de travail personnel et de rédaction des mémoires de recherche.

This restructuring is accompanied by the creation of a new major: the Master's degree in Epistémology, history and philosophy of science and technology (heads : Gabriella Crocco & Marie Anglade), co-sponsored by the UFR ALLSH and the Faculté des sciences.

Both the cross-disciplinary BCCs and the subject-specific BCCs, by virtue of the nature of the subject and the associated exercises, enable students to acquire versatile skills in the following areas:

● Maîtrise de l'argumentation

- maîtrise de l'argumentation et de l'articulation logique du discours et des idées

- critical thinking, ability to question one's own prejudices and those of others

- ability to grasp a problem from its premises to its implications

- ability to mobilise one's culture, whether general or disciplinary, with a view to establishing or criticising a theory

● Maîtrise of analysis

- maîtrise of concepts and their expression, finesse in grasping sémantic variations

- ability to read texts and identify hypotheses, themes, proofs, arguments, types of demonstration

- precision in grasping information and perception of its stakes and implications

● Maîtrise de la synthèse

- ability to describe concisely the main aspects of a problem, the essential points of a text or a controversy, ability to summarise a work or a report

- ability to grasp ideas and controversies from a historical perspective

● Mastery of written and spoken expression

- reactive skills: clarity, precision, organisation of the discourse

- ability to express oneself fluently in front of an audience, to adapt one's speech to the skills and interests of the audience, to support a thesis with solid arguments

- Ability to respond to questions and objections, to mobilise knowledge in the rapid pace of verbal exchange

● Proficiency in a modern language

- handling scientific English

- mastery of translation issues in both research and communication

● Mastery of digital tools, knowledge of digital resources in the discipline
