The master's degree offers a complete multidisciplinary training, involving the concepts necessary for the understanding and modelling of a complex mechanical system. The disciplinary skills acquired concern the mechanics of continuous media (fluids and solids), physics, mathematics and scientific calculation.

The course is designed to be a combination of both theoretical and practical skills.

A strength of this training is that the courses offered in M2 provide skills that can be highly valued in business and research, and allow future graduates to develop their skills and knowledge in the field;They enable future graduates to develop cutting-edge skills in a wide range of sectors, including aeronautics, fire safety, the environment and living environments.

The master's degree benefits from a privileged location on the Château Gombert site which allows direct contact with the teacher-researchers of the Fabri de Peiresc laboratories (M2P2, LMA, IUSTI, IRPHE), who are strongly involved in the training. This environment is very favourable to the transmission of knowledge from research and to the professional integration of future graduates, and provides international visibility and openness.

Targeted students

The master is open to students mainly from the Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Physics portal of the Faculty of Science, but remains open to other Bachelor's degree courses of the Faculty of Science, as well as to external Bachelor's degrees. It also welcomes students in continuing education.

Admission conditions

The master is open to students in initial and continuing education. A study is underway to offer the training to our socio-economic partners in the form of a sandwich course.

Structure and organisation

The Master's degree is characterised by a solid and complete common base of disciplinary knowledge, providing students with the fundamental knowledge and know-how of medicine. It is offered every semester, with an increasing amount of time from semester 1 to semester 3, semester 4 being dedicated to the internship. In semester 2 and semester 3, a set of mutualised options allow for the professionalisation of the training.

Knowledge to be acquired

The Master's degree in Mechanics is a multidisciplinary course, involving the concepts necessary for the understanding and modelling of a complex mechanical system in interaction with its environment. The main disciplinary competences are continuous media mechanics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics and thermics. Mathematics, as well as physics, are a fundamental support to the disciplinary knowledge base of the training. Experimentation and scientific calculation are also part of the knowledge acquired.

At the M2 level, more specific knowledge is acquired depending on the chosen pathway, among which we can mention aeacute;rodynamics, combustion, advanced numerical methods to capture the phénomènes multiphysics or turbulent, fire and fire science, rheology and structures of biological media, wind and water power, mixing, transport and fluid interfaces.

Professional skills to be acquired

Analyze, understand and model a mechanical system, and predict its evolution through the application of multidisciplinary knowledge and methods;The course is designed for students who wish to learn about the fundamental methods of fluid mechanics and solid mechanics, applied mathematics, numerical calculation and physics.
É the study strategy of a mechanical system in its environment, extract its relevant spatio-temporal characteristics, develop a strategy for the study of the system, and develop a strategy for the study of the system;To develop a theoretical, numerical or experimental study strategy, and to interpret and exploit the results.
Communicate fluently in French, both written and spoken, adapting to the audience, through structured, relevant and critical argumentation.

Internships and supervised projects

Two internships are carried out, one of 8 weeks in M1 to cover research, and the M2 internship of 6 months, open to the whole academic and industrial world in France and Europe. Tutored projects, in small groups, will take place, favouring a strong initiative of the group and involving a significant amount of personal work.

Seeked careers

The Master's degree offers both research careers, with thesis pursuits in laboratories, as well as careers in companies, in research and development, management and consultancy positions. The spectrum of sectors concerned is wide and covers all areas of engineering, and more specifically, depending on the path chosen by the students: aeronautics, transport, fire safety, energy, living environments and the environment.

The course is designed to help students develop their skills in the field of engineering and to help them to develop their knowledge and skills.

Continuing studies

The doctorate is a possible continuation of the Master of Science degree.

Partners

Students are exposed to research in the laboratories surrounding the master (M2P2, LMA, IUSTI, IRPHE) during the 8-week TER internship in M1. This internship, and more specifically the M2 internship, are also open to the whole academic and industrial world in France and Europe. The training is co-accredited with the Ecole Centrale Marseille, with mutualisation of EUs and adjustments to the timetable for students.

The speakers from the socio-professional world concern the M2 courses through targeted seminars, specialisation courses, internships and company visits. The Conseil de Perfectionnement is composed of AMU teachers, as well as professionals from the sectors of activity concerned, including IRSN, Airbus Helicopters, CEA, ONERA.

Support for your academic choices

A progressive specialisation is proposed, with in the second semester a set of three options to choose from among four courses, which allows students to be guided in their orientation. In the third semester, a set of four options allows the training to be further professionalized specifically for each course.

The first semester is devoted to the development of the course.

Support for your studies abroad

One vocation of the Master of Science is to be open to the international scene, as is the case with the WAVES course currently being established and based on an Erasmus Mundus programme, whose courses are taught 100% in English.
