The GEE major is becoming clearer and is being restructured into 6 degree courses directly linked to the ecological transition, 5 in initial or continuing pre-service training (FI/FC) and one in work-linked training (FA) fed by the 5 FI/FC courses:

• M1-M2 (FI/FC) Gestion et Métrologie pour les Environnements Vulnérables ou Anthropisés - Sciences et Technologies de l'Environnement (GeMEVA-STE) (also offered as a sandwich course)

• M1-M2 (FI/FC) Gestion et Métrologie pour la Qualité de l’Air - Sciences et Technologies de l (GeMQuA - STE)

• M1-M2 (FI/FC) Environmental and Climate Management - Environmental Sciences and Technologies (GEC - STE)

• M1-M2 (FI/FC) Rational Management of the Energy Mix and Ecological Transition - Environmental Sciences and Technologies (GRETE - STE)

• M1-M2 (FI/FC) Gestion des Sols, Déchets et sites Pollués - - Sciences et Technologies de l'Environnement (GSDP - STE)

• M2 (FA) Environmental Management - Environmental Sciences and Technologies (GESTE).

Based on a solid common foundation of cross-disciplinary and related skills, specialisation in the field is gradually developed over the three semesters of teaching

Aims

The « Gestion de l'environnement » (GEE) master's degree offers dynamic teaching based on the most recent developments in concepts and techniques. The aim is to provide students with a fully integrated scientific approach to understanding the operation, protection, rehabilitation and management of systems and facilities;systems and ecosystems, and the analysis and management of natural and man-made risks and environmental crises, in the context of global change, resource scarcity and ecological transition. Through active teaching and project management, students will develop their ability to work as part of a team through interpersonal communication, time management and initiative-taking. The specialism also aims to strengthen innovation, creativity and critical thinking, with a view to acquiring an objective and synthesised scientific approach. As future engineers or researchers specialising in the sustainable and rational management of natural and industrial, agricultural and urban environments, graduates will be able to develop autonomous research, development and monitoring activities in line with current scientific and societal issues.

Targeted students

Students with SVT, Chemistry, Physics, Geography degrees and students with Life Sciences degrees oriented towards the Universe and Environmental Sciences. Students with professional degrees in Natural and Technological Risks may be admitted to further study after examining their applications.

Learning and research

The programme is supported by three research units recognised nationally and internationally for their expertise in the field of the environment: Laboratoire de Chimie de l’Environnement (LCE), Centre Européen de Recherche et d’Enseignement en Géosciences de l’Environnement (CEREGE), Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d’Ecologie (IMBE), and organisations such as the Institut de Recherche sur le Développement (IRD) and the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). The multi-disciplinary teaching team is made up of dynamic teacher-researchers who are in touch with students' professional ambitions and with the field and socio-professional environment. GEE is involved in university excellence and the transformation of training through research, with the choice of research support from the AMIDEX foundation (TIGER, TFR-renfort recherche). It accompanies éstudents in the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge and enables them to benefit from knowledge of the latest scientific innovations.

Knowledge to be acquired

The Environmental Management major (GEE) responds to the new social and environmental challenges of the 21st century. Built around 6 programmes and supported by strong research units and an exceptionally dense socio-professional network, GEE trains high-level engineers and researchers in environmental science and technology and risk management. The programme is resolutely cross-disciplinary, providing a solid grounding in geology, chemistry, data processing, physics, and even sociology, law/regulations and standards, depending on the degree chosen. The most recent developments in concepts and techniques required for a scientific approach to the functioning of continental systems and ecosystems, their chemical monitoring, protection, rehabilitation and management are described. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, project management, ICT, report writing, knowledge of socio-professional networks.

Internships and supervised projects

Practical work, particularly of the 'field trip' type, is compulsory in each semester of the course. Starting in M1, and as part of the first year's environmental project, students will choose between a spring field school, an introductory research placement on subjects from the various laboratories, teams and partner organisations (INRA, IRD, CEA, etc.) or a voluntary work placement in a company. A compulsory 5-6 month work placement in a company or laboratory must be completed at the end of the 2nd year of the Master's programme, enabling students to acquire professional skills.

Seeked careers

GEE graduates can work as executive engineers in the public or private sectors, in public research bodies, local authorities, SMEs or large groups with an environmental department, specialised consultancies, in Récotechnologies R&D, offering a wide range of skills in the technological sectors of the environment, resource management, the environment and sustainable development;They offer a wide range of services in the technological sectors of the environment, resource management, waste, pollution and nuisance, energy efficiency and risk management:Management and engineering; Industrial hygiene and safety; Environmental health and safety; Industrial quality management and engineering; Supervision of industrial operations; Industrial environmental engineering;nieur en efficaciténergute;tique ; Chargé de projets énergies renouvelables ; Ingénieurs et cadres techniques de l'environnement ; Management et ingénierie études, recherche et dédéveloppement industriel ; Recherche en sciences de l'univers, de la matière et du vivant ; Ingénieurs des collectivit;s locales et des hôpitaux Ingénieurs et cadres de la production et de la distribution d'énergie, IngéEngineers and managers in energy production and distribution, environmental engineers and managers, soil, air and water quality engineers, public research researchers, higher education teachers, freelance technical consultants.

Continuing studies

A significant number of graduates go on to study for a doctorate. The nature and location of the end-of-study placement is decisive for this orientation. A sixth year devoted to acquiring additional skills in computer science is open to all graduates of AMU's Master of Science programmes.

Partners

The degree is supported by a multidisciplinary team of teacher-researchers, supported by three major joint research units (LCE, CEREGE, IMBE) working in environmental research, and a large number of high-level professionals, combining skills in environmental sciences, engineering sciences and human and social sciences. GEE also relies on an exceptionally dense and diversified network of public and private partners. The GEE major benefits from a tripartite (Training-Research-Enterprise) professional development council, which plays a key role in adapting training as closely as possible to the needs of the world of employment and in developing training strategies tailored to the environmental management professions. The degree courses are supported by the AMIDEX Foundation. There is a partnership with a number of SMEs, which are involved in teaching and sponsor the M1 spring courses in particular.

Support for your academic choices

Before each semester, after a presentation of the modules and an individual interview, the student signs an educational contract that is co-constructed with the teaching team and takes into account his or her career plan.

The range of courses is structured into 6 typical pathways with progressive specialisation and very strong interaction/mutualisation in M1. The combination of a common core of related and cross-disciplinary knowledge with specific teaching to define the compulsory and/or optional pathways enables students on each pathway to gradually and harmoniously acquire the know-how and skills needed to build their professional project. A specific module in M1S2 enables students to better target their career plans. Finally, the University's Job Placement and Guidance Service advises and provides students with documentation to help them build their career plans, continue their studies and find employment (individualised support provided by job placement officers).

Support for your labor market integration

Aix-Marseille Université via its integration and guidance service represents an important resource. OSU Institut Pythéas - the University's "environmental sciences" component - constitutes a high-potential network of more than 4,000 graduates (2005-2023). In the GEE specialism, help with doctoral studies, follow-up of graduates N+1, N+2, internship and job offer relays, alumni and student contacts.

Support for your studies abroad

International agreements (ERASMUS, CREPUQ, etc.) enable students to take advantage of foreign exchange programmes to study in France or abroad (Europe, Canada, etc.). One of the MAEVA course's research finalities, Air Quality and Analysis, is a co-diploma with the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in LEBANON. There are opportunities for semesters abroad, but they need to be planned in advance.
