This course will be considering forms of knowledge and experience in the Victorian novel. We will be looking at forms of representation, including space and time, in Victorian novels. All of these categories will be used to ascertain how forms of knowledge and experience are shaped and articulated. In order to do this, we will be analyzing excerpts from the Oxford World’s Classics editions of North and South (Elizabeth Gaskell), Middlemarch (George Eliot), Dracula (Bram Stoker), The War of the Worlds (HG Wells), Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (R.L Stevenson).
